Operable western facade systems control the harsh afternoon sun while allowing expansive views across the hinterland.
To the north of the site, Spice Alley, micro tenancies for grassroots food offerings create an urban laneway.
Complex shapes hover in the air and slowly stagger down the hill. External materials move from outside to inside. One of the major factors of the house is privacy from the surrounding houses. The use of solid balconies and screens give the house the feeling of a sanctuary even though it has neighbours all around.
The project is full of reclaimed materials which became the ‘skeletons’ of the larger non-residential buildings on the site.
